How Thomas Moves Forward with Pragmatism
Whether it’s on the ski jump or in his daily work: Thomas is always looking for ways to improve – step by step, jump by jump. Since December 2022, he’s been part of Berghof, driving production improvements as a process engineer. His approach is pragmatic, hands-on, and always focused on the bigger picture: creating meaningful progress for colleagues and customers.

What does Moving Forward mean to you?
Moving Forward means taking initiative, contributing ideas, and taking responsibility. At Berghof, I get the chance to do exactly that. It’s similar in sports: in ski jumping or Nordic combined, talent matters, but what really counts is willpower and perseverance. In the end, it’s all about taking the next step – whether at work or in training.
Where do you recharge your energy?
Sports give me the most energy. I train regularly on the ski jump, run a lot, and I also coach kids in ski jumping. That mix of challenging myself while taking responsibility for others really motivates me. It reminds me how important variety is. And that even small improvements add up when you stick with it. I bring the same mindset to my work at Berghof: even complex processes can be improved step by step. Every step counts. And every step brings us closer to the goal.
What are you proud of?
Recently I won the Baden-Württemberg Championship in Nordic combined. That moment showed me: persistence and willpower pay off. It takes countless repetitions and small improvements to achieve real progress. At work, I see it the same way: I’d rather put quick, pragmatic improvements into action than spend forever chasing the perfect master plan. For me, what matters is that it works. And that I keep moving forward, step by step.
What makes a team successful in your eyes?
For me, it’s all about genuine support and motivating each other. In sports as well as at work. Ski jumping may look like an individual sport, but you only reach your full potential with the push of a team.
At Berghof, it’s the same: we back each other up and drive each other forward. Not because we have to, but because we want things to get better. Everyone contributes. And that’s how solutions emerge that truly work. For us internally and for our customers.
What defines you as a coach?
As a coach, I try to teach kids: “Be open, try things out, and don’t let fixed mindsets hold you back. Do what excites you. And stick with it, even when it gets tough.” That doesn’t just apply in sports. It’s just as true in life and at work. Because only those who stay open to new things and have the courage to keep going really move forward.
