A Strong Partnership Between Reutlingen University and the Berghof Group

Collaboration with Reutlingen University is firmly embedded across the Berghof Group. Within the Faculty of Life Sciences, Berghof Membranes, Berghof Products + Instruments, and Berghof Fluoroplastics work closely with the university on hands-on, application-driven topics. In addition, Berghof Automation has maintained a close partnership with the Faculty of Engineering for many years.

The Berghof Group is now further expanding this collaboration in a targeted way, strengthening the exchange between academic research and industrial practice. Alongside joint teaching formats, site visits, and career initiatives, the company also supports the Günter Lorenz Prize—an award recognizing outstanding final theses within the Faculty of Life Sciences.

The Berghof Group is deepening its long-standing collaboration with Reutlingen University, underscoring its commitment to nurturing young talent and advancing practice-oriented education in the life sciences.

The partnership aims to give students early exposure to industrial processes while strengthening the transfer of scientific knowledge into real-world applications.

Where Practice Meets Study

A key element of the collaboration is Berghof’s direct involvement in teaching. In addition to joint lectures, students gain first-hand insights through site visits to the company’s facilities in Eningen, where they are introduced to technologies, production processes, and current industry projects.

Experts from the company also contribute to lectures, sharing their experience and delivering practice-relevant content—particularly in areas such as instrumental analysis. Complementing this, an annual seminar addresses current challenges and topics from day-to-day business operations.

Career Opportunities and Insights

The partnership creates tangible career pathways for students. Internships, thesis projects, and working student positions allow them to apply their theoretical knowledge in real-world settings while gaining valuable hands-on experience.

At the same time, enhanced communication via the website and social media provides additional insights into the collaboration and highlights career opportunities within the group.

Supporting Excellence: The Günter Lorenz Prize

Another key component of the partnership, introduced this year, is the sponsorship of the Günter Lorenz Prize. Presented twice a year, the award honors outstanding final theses that combine academic excellence with innovation, interdisciplinary thinking, and societal relevance.

The prize commemorates Professor Dr. Günter Lorenz, who shaped the Faculty of Life Sciences over many years and was known for his holistic approach to scientific inquiry.
