50 years of Berghof – 50 years of innovation

October 6, 2016

Berghof is celebrating its company anniversary: On August 2, 1966, Prof. Dr. Georg Zundel founded the Physikalisch-Technisches Laboratorium Berghof. Starting out as a pure research institute with headquarters in Tübingen, Berghof today groups eight business units at eight locations under the umbrella of the holding company, including offices in Detroit and Singapore. The internationally operating technology company generates revenue of over 50 million euros with 250 employees on three continents.

The company’s history is one of successes. From the outset, the company concentrated on developing innovations. As early as the 1970s, Berghof was among the most distinguished research institutes in Germany, with contracts from Bosch, Daimler Benz, IBM, the Federal Ministry of Research and Technology and the German Test and Research Institute for Aviation and Space Flight, among others. Finally, the research institute managed the transition to a technology company – developing and producing innovative products and services, as well as the tradition of transferring scientific theory into business practice still characterize the company today. The Berghof Group is a networking organization and synergistic platform with the ability to cross-link the competencies of diverse product areas with a broad spectrum of industry expertise. This collaborative approach is expressed in the idea of “Your Innovation Hub” and is further promoted through innovation and research projects in cooperation with partners and customers.

The jubilee year centers around the innovation hub: With the Berghof Innovation Days, Berghof has established an event format within the scope of which each business unit provides an opportunity to discuss with experts about key topics for the future. This year’s events were as diversified as the company itself: Berghof Products and Instruments concentrated on modern pressure reactors with microwave heating; at Berghof Fluoroplastics, high-performance plastics and their future potential were at the focus, while Berghof Membranes demonstrated and discussed industrial treatment of wastewater effluents with an event format at the IFAT in Munich.

For 50 years, Berghof has been passionate about future-related issues and has gathered a wealth of experience, but the most valuable of all is the recognition that this is only possible together – with customers and partners, as well as all of our dedicated employees. At the beginning of the anniversary year, the shareholders and management therefore took the opportunity to thank all employees for their commitment.

The highlight of the anniversary year is the official ceremony on October 6, 2016 in Reutlingen City Hall, which will offer 250 invited guests exciting insights into the Berghof Innovation Hub, followed by a varied festive program.
