Contrary to dead-end systems, cross flow membrane systems are capable of clarifying liquids with a relaively high soids content. This is caused by the high velocity of the liquid of 2-4 m/s along the membrane surface (cross flow), preventing the precipitation of particles, solids or biomass on the membrane and from this the blocking of the membrane.

The preferred option is the 5 mm or 8 mm diameter HyMem PVDF membrane for a high module density (m² of filtratioin area per m³ installation volume). For high solids contents the 10 mm diameter tubular membranes are appropriate. The module arrangement is determined by placing up to eight modules in series.
